FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
March
13th, 2007, Hartford Connecticut: The
Pakistani American Association of Connecticut (PAACT)
and the Pakistani American Public
Affairs Committee (PAKPAC) join with fellow citizens
and leaders of Connecticut to condemn the violent
attack on Mr. Javed Akhtar which fatally wounded
him. While
the suspicion is high that this might be an armed
robbery incident, the possibility of this being a
hate crime is still being considered.
We want to announce the setting
up of a reward fund which will provide a
reward of $2,500 (two thousand five hundred
dollars), maximum allowed reward by the State, to any individual or group whose material
information leads to the arrest and conviction of
the perpetrators of this violent crime. We want to
thank the East Windsor Police Department, who with
their limited resources, have
been working diligently to help solve this case and
we ask anyone with information on this case to call
the
police at 860-292-8240, ext. 112 or 113.
Mr.
Akhtar's untimely death has had a tremendous impact on his
family.
His
wife has been affected by a previous accident and is
disabled. She will be the primary caregiver to their 7 year old twin
children (a boy and a girl). To help support the
family the organizations have set up a
support account for Mr.
Akhtar. If anyone wants to help the family through
this difficult situation,
we encourage sending financial support by making a tax deductible
contribution to "PAACT" (in
memo write "Javed Akhtar Support") and mail to PAACT: PO Box 769, South Windsor, CT 06074-769.
