BACKGROUND:
The people of South
Asia have just seen an
unprecedented level of a
disaster. This
earthquake of Saturday,
8th of October, 2005 is
one the most severe
earthquakes in the
history of mankind.
The damage has spread
across an entire region
home to about 60 Million
people. This disaster
has left as of right now
an estimated 40,000
people dead. According
to preliminary estimates
there about 4.5 million
people without any food
or shelter. With
the winter coming in the
cold northern areas this
disaster has the
potential of becoming
one of the most
significant catastrophic
events in the history.
To get a perspective on
weather it is like
small children without
parents and injured
individuals laying
outside in rainy season
in the cold mountains of
Vermont, with no food or
shelter.
PAACT RESPONSE
& FUNDS DISBURSEMENT

The funds marked for the
immediate needs of the
victims would be
transferred through the
Presidents Funds through
the Pakistan Embassy.
PAACT will send these
funds through them, with
specific focus on the
immediate and
intermediate needs as
defined and the reasons
explained in the
following link
The funds marked for the
long term needs will be
channeled through, SAVE
THE CHILDREN" to help
the victims. Here are
the reasons for our
decision:
a) Save the Children, is
a very credible
organization
b) They have a long term
presence and a good
track record of work in
Pakistan
c) They have been and
are being used by USAID
as well for the disaster
relief work
d) They have agreed to
match the funds, 1:1 for
PAACT funding at this
time.
e) They are rated 4 star
by charity navigator.
f) Most friends, we have
talked with feel
comfortable donating
their money through
them.
g) They are in
Connecticut and easily
accessible to the
community members here.
